Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ISA Certified Arborist? Why is that important?
The International Society of Arboriculture (https://www.isa-arbor.com/) is organization that promotes professionalism and sets the standard for proper tree care. A Certified Arborist has passed the ISA Certification and can assess, diagnose, and give proper guidance on tree care.
What is stump grinding and when do I need it?
After a tree is removed, a stump is left in the ground where the tree was. A stump grinding service will “grind up” the stump into the ground, leaving a pile of sawdust that decomposes into dirt. This is an optional service, as trees generally don’t grow back after being removed. Most homeowners who choose to do this service do so for aesthetic reasons or to help with landscaping.
What is the best time of year to do tree work?
This depends on the type of tree! Some trees need to be done in certain times of the year, some are fine any time. If you’re not sure what your type of tree needs, schedule an estimate and have our certified arborist evaluate your particular tree care needs.
How often should I have my trees evaluated?
The short answer is that we recommend pruning about once a year or once every other year. That being said, it’s also somewhat subjective. Different trees grow at varying rates, and their growth can be influenced by different factors in different years. The frequency of pruning depends on the health of the tree, as well as its size and proximity to potential targets in case of branch failure.
Do you haul the debris away after doing tree work?
Yes! Unless you don’t want us to. The estimates we provide take into account chipping and hauling all brush and wood by default.
How much foliage do you take off the tree when trimming it?
However much is healthy for the tree! This usually means taking all the dead, and about 15-20% of the live foliage. Some trees need to be trimmed a little less or a little more, depending on what their trimming history and their recent growth has been like. During an estimate, our experts will determine with you what is going to be the best course of action for your tree and landscape.
Do I need a permit to do tree work?
Maybe! It generally depends on what city you live in, what type of tree you have, and what size the tree is. We will determine if your work needs a permit as part of your free estimate.
Do you work in the rain?
It depends on the type of rain and the type of tree work. If you have tree work that is not safe to be completed due to weather, we will let you know and help you reschedule to a different day. For more information about our rainy day work, check out our blog post.
